I had a great weekend. Yves Edwards and I saw “Wolverine” on Saturday and it was awesome. I didn’t do any indulging on the typical movie theatre foods though, just had a nice cup of coffee to wake me up. With “Wolverine” in the books, I’m looking forward to watching “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” when it comes out on DVD this week.
I had a chance to catch the Pacquiao-Hatton fight after the movie. What an amazing fight. Got me even more excited for my fight next month. Manny is just a lot of fun to watch. Now that (Floyd) Mayweather is coming back, everyone wants to see Pacquiao-Mayweather. I definitely want to see that fight. I’m telling you right now, I’ll be rooting for Pacquiao.
Aside from the movies and the fight, I spent another stellar weekend decorating my home. The blinds are up. I built a closet with shelves, too. Without a doubt, I’m getting maximum usage out of my new drill. And the fun never stops. I’m on way to Home Goods to go find some end tables and a bed for my guest room. Fighter by day, decorator by night. Ha ha.
Speaking of drilling, we are really sparring hard at ATT. Former PRIDE fighter Luiz “Buscape” Firmino just joined the team and he’s become another quality training partner. He’s a really strong 155er and has fought some of the best in the world. We’re happy to have him on board.
I’m taking some time to rest up and give my body some much-needed recovery this week.
Usually, I’ll start camp with 2 or 3 weeks of two-a-days and then scale back for a week and train once a day. I usually know when to cut back because I feel my body tiring. Right now, I’m at the point where I’m going so hard in the gym that I have to make sure to get the rest my body needs.
With the guys we have in the gym right now, any fighter would need some rest. Given the way we spar, it’s important to be well-prepared because we are always looking for the knockout. We are always looking to push each other to the fullest. It’s the type of training that makes the actual fight easier.
This week, it’s back to business as usual. I’ll be training at ATT in Coconut Creek and then over at the ATT gym in West Palm Beach. I’ll have a camera crew from VERSUS following me around, so that should be cool. It’s the type of exposure that we need to promote this fight.
About a month out from fight night, I expect that the fans are starting to get really fired up. I know I am.
