Fighter Biography

Training: Every day is a little different, but it always includes me being beat up by a bunch of high level athletes. It's usually a little standup training at the Grudge training center, either wrestling or Jiu Jitsu at Easton BJJ, and one form or another of cardio training, which is my least favorite thing on Earth.

When and why did you start training for fighting? I've always been involved in martial arts. I started training at Easton Brazilian Jiu Jitsu when I moved to Boulder for college. It quickly took over my life.

What ranks and titles have you held? ROF Featherweight champion.

Do you have any heroes? The Hulks -- The Incredible Hulk and Hulk Hogan.

Did you go to college? BA in Sociology with a focus on Criminology from CU Boulder.

Most memorable professional fight? My Shootboxing fight against 2006 world champ Kenichi Ogata in Japan. I was a huge underdog, and I knocked him out in the first round.

What motivates you? My biggest motivation is always to make sure I don't let anybody down. My girlfriend, family, friends, and especially my training partners put so much time and effort into my training, I'm always terrified of letting them down.

What is your favorite thing about this sport? Before every fight, my thought process is "why the hell am I doing this?" And after every fight, my thought process is "Man, I can't wait to do that again.” There's nothing that compares to the experience of a fight.
