Fighter Biography
When and why did you start training for fighting? I started training MMA because I love it. It gives me a chance to make a living doing something I have always loved to do. Competition is the greatest motivator for me and to get paid for it, that is rad.
What ranks and titles have you held? I hold the ROF title at 145
Do you have any heroes? I have many people who have helped mold me into the Fighter/Father I am today. I thank them all, especially my father.
What is your favorite technique? I enjoy takedowns and dirty boxing, both on my feet and on the ground, but I will take victory no matter how I secure it. I’m going to find a way to win.
What does it mean for you to fight in the WEC? It means a lot. After fighting in small shows, it is hard to see the pay off of all the hard work at that level. The WEC gave me a home and a pay off I will soon be able to see, hold and spend for all my hard work. I will take full advantage of my opportunity and rise to be the best. It feels good to be with the best lightweight organization in the world.
Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? I earned a Bachelors degree in Psychology.
What was your job before you started fighting? I was and currently am the Marketing Director for a Home Health company.
How has your training changed since coming into the WEC? Nothing has changed. I still train as hard as I did when I was a college wrestler. You can never train too hard. And as Coach Randall and Owens always said “Be prepared for anything”.
What is it like to fight on live TV in the WEC? It is a great opportunity to show that I can compete with some of the best fighters in the world. Get ready for fireworks!
How have the stakes changed now that your with the WEC? I have the chance to fight some of the top bantamweights in the country, if not the world. Until I have that belt I will train my ass off and never back away from a hard fought victory.
How has the competition level changed since joining the WEC? Obviously it’s like stepping up from high school wrestling to the collegiate level. It is something I am prepared for though. I have competed with the best in the nation and world in wrestling and I am ready to do the same in the WEC. Bring it on because I’m ready to go.
Most memorable professional fight? To me it’s all of them. They are all memorable and they each had their own special moments that stand out and taught me something about myself and fighting. I look forward to many more.
What was your most challenging professional fight? My most challenging fight was Damacio Page at WEC 32. I dropped a decision that I still feel like I should have won. It was a great fight but I made one mistake thinking I had the fight secured and it cost me the fight.
Did you compete in any other sport at college or professional level? I wrestled for Boise State University from 02 to 06.
Who were your training partners for this fight? My Head trainer Tommy Owens and I selected some solid guys for this camp which I ran out of my gym Combat Fitness in Boise. I stayed in Boise for this camp instead of heading to Sacramento or Las Vegas. I brought in Joe Warren, Kit Cope, Andrew Hochstrasser and Tyler Sherfey both All- American wrestlers from Boise State and former teammates along with Brian Owens. My main training partner Jesse Brock along with Team Twisted Genetiks and all my Combat Fitness family helped me as well.
Did you put more emphasis towards a fighting style or adjust your training to prepare for your opponent? I trained as I always do - hard. I train in a well rounded environment and prepare for anything. I busted my ass and improved in the areas I wanted to after my last fight. I brought in some top level guys to improve a few areas of my game that I think will be very key in my victory for this fight.
What, other than WINNING, are you using for motivation for the fight? I am working back towards my title shot. I feel I didn’t lose my fight with Banuelos. I'm pissed I was robbed of a three fight win streak and I am taking it out on Rebello.
What is your favorite thing about this sport? Favorite thing... All of it, the whole nine yards - training camp, sponsors, the fights, friends and good times.
How long do you see yourself staying in this sport? I'll fight till I don’t have fun with MMA anymore. I do this for fun. When it stops being fun I'll stop.
