Fighter Biography

Training: My typical day of training is very fast paced right now as I’m training 5 to 6 hours a day with strength and conditioning in the morning and fight training at night. Mon. through Sat.

When and why did you start training for fighting?
I started training in 2000, influenced by my cousin Gustavo Oliveira and legend Royce Gracie

What ranks and titles have you held? BJJ black belt/ Pan American champion/ Shotokan 2004 champion

Do you have any heroes?
God

What is your favorite technique? Too many to list

What does it mean for you to fight in the WEC?
It means a lot; I get to prove who I am and what I'm about.

What was your job before you started fighting? BJJ instructor

Most memorable professional fight (who, where, why)? Joe Lauzon, it was my first fight out of state against a tough guy in AFC 15 - Miami, FL

What was your most challenging professional fight (against who, when, what was the outcome)? A fight I had in Colorado against Nick Mamalis. The altitude made it tougher, but I was able to finish and win.

Who were your training partners for this fight? My training partners are My brother JR, Jorge Masvidal ,Alex Villa,Cyborg Abreu,Pablo Popovich, and many others....

Did you put more emphasis towards a fighting style or adjust your training to prepare for your opponent (what did you do differently/why)? I'm in Miami working and doing my camp with one of the best conditioning coaches from Brasil that has been living here – FERRINO. He is a monster. I've also been wresting a lot with some top Olympic level guys like Alex Villa, an Olympian and world champ. I've been grappling with ABU DHABI, ADCC champions, and other very good athletes.

What, other than WINNING, are you using for motivation for the fight? My main motivation is always to prove to myself ,family, friends, and coaches that I can accomplish all my goals in life and in my career with JESUS’ strength and protection.

What is your favorite thing about this sport? Competition, the versatility.

How long do you see yourself staying in this sport? Eight more years....
