Fighter Biography
When and why did you start training for fighting? Just showed up at the gym one day and haven't left since.
What ranks and titles have you held? A bunch of amateur titles but no pro titles.
Do you have any heroes? Not really.
What is your favorite technique? Right hand to the mouth.
What does it mean for you to fight in the WEC? It's a great opportunity for me to show my skills to everyone instead of just the Midwest. It is also an accomplishment for my personal goals making it to this prestigious of a show. It’s like the NFL of fighting. Plus it makes for a good paycheck every few months.
Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? Still in college. A few credits from an Associate’s Degree.
What was your job before you started fighting? I worked for T-Mobile selling cell phones just about a month ago. Now this is my full-time job.
Most memorable professional fight? Steve Schneider, Kansas City, MO. It was very memorable because all of the talk that was surrounding the fight. The fight was in the works for over two years and I knew I was better than he was. A minute into the fight I tore my knee and had to finish the fight hobbling on one leg. I had to overcome large amounts of pain and a tough opponent to win.
What was your most challenging professional fight? Probably Mike Johnson, who just beat Clay French. He’s a tough guy and hits like a truck. I ended up catching him being lazy on the ground and triangled him.
Did you compete in any other sport at college or professional level? No
Who were your training partners for this fight? Rob Kimmons, Eric Marriott, Brian Davidson, Lee Gibson etc. We have a great team that just keeps getting bigger.
Did you put more emphasis towards a fighting style or adjust your training to prepare for your opponent? A lot more hard sparring. I’ve basically been fighting people in the gym for the past month. I’m ready for a war for sure.
What, other than WINNING, are you using for motivation for the fight? Winning is the biggest thing.
What is your favorite thing about this sport? Probably the fact that just about anyone can be successful at it. You don't have to be blessed with genetics to make it to the top. It helps but if you learn and train hard you can go anywhere with this sport. i.e. - Kenny Florian
How long do you see yourself staying in this sport? As long as I can really. I’m in no hurry to get out anytime soon.
