Fighter Biography

Training: Morning strength and conditioning, afternoon hard training or sparring, evening pad work or specific technique

When and why did you start training for fighting?  In high school because I had an attitude and a cowboy hat. After that I messed around with some amateur kickboxing and did pretty well. Then I went pro in the RING OF FIRE show and moved on to MMA. It has just been a progression.

What ranks and titles have you held?
I am S-1 Muay Thai United States Champion

Do you have any heroes?
I look up to Duane BANG Ludwig a lot

What is your favorite technique?
  Straight right down the pipe.

What does it mean for you to fight in the WEC?
That I am starting to reach my goals in this sport, but also that I have a long way to go.

Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn?
School Of hard knocks, degree in attitude adjusting.

What was your job before you started fighting?
  I was a bull rider.

How have the stakes changed now that you’re with the WEC?  It hasn’t really. When the door closes it is still me against him, the rest of the world has nothing to do with it. Either he will beat me or I will beat him, and it’s my job to beat him. I am good at my job.

Most memorable professional fight? Razor Rob, WEC, we threw down for 3 rounds. My first time going the distance, it was nice to have a guy stand and trade instead of running.

What was your most challenging professional fight?
My first pro fight, I hadn’t even started training really. I was a pro kickboxer who was offered some money, so I said hell yeah, let’s do this!

Did you compete in any other sport at college or professional level?
I grew up riding bulls and dirt bikes, wasn’t till I started kickboxing that I got into MMA

Who were your training partners for this fight?
I train with the best team in the world with the best trainer in the world. Specifically, down at Jacksons for this camp we’ve had a full house. Me and Leonard Garcia have had 8-10 guys at our house all camp, plus all the guys at the gym. My main training partners are Leonard Garcia, Tom “Kong” Watson, Joe Stevenson, GSP, KJ, Rashad, Damacio, Frankie Gomez, just nothing but killers!

Did you put more emphasis towards a fighting style or adjust your training to prepare for your opponent?
I just trained everything and have really grown since my last fight. You all are going to see a whole new version in this fight!!

What, other than WINNING, are you using for motivation for the fight?
I believe that I have what it takes to become champion. I know Ben well and like him, but when the cage door closes, I want to win that belt.

What is your favorite thing about this sport?
Throwing down, just getting in there and mixing it up. I love to fight and entertain.

How long do you see yourself staying in this sport?
Not sure, I’m only 26, I’m gonna be around for a while!!
