Fighter Biography
Thoughts on upcoming opponent, Maciej Jewtuszko? Jewtuszko is an extremely tough guy who has awesome striking. I know this will be a battle and I can't wait. I love battles.
Training: A typical day would consist of punching, kicking and a lot of Jiu Jitsu.
When and why did you start training for fighting? I was born in Nigeria and moved to the United States in 1983. My parents worked very hard to ensure our education, and I attended college for four years in Business. I started fighting because I loved Martial Arts. I began training nine years ago in Muay Thai, five years ago in jiu-jitsu. Bruce Lee movies interested me and I had the dream of being a real Martial Arts hero some day.
What ranks and titles have you held? Art Of War Champion, Kansas Muay Thai Champion, TKO Champion.
Do you have any heroes? My father
What is your favorite technique? Leg kick
What does it mean for you to fight in the WEC? A dream come true. I can’t wait to show my skills.
What was your job before you started fighting? Muay Thai Trainer, Earth Link
Most memorable professional fight (who, where, why)? HDnet fight against Kenneth Rosfort. He was a UK MMA title holder. It was a standup war with the end result a KO win in the first round.
What was your most challenging professional fight (against who, when, what was the outcome)? I would say my most challenging fight was with Ben Henderson. I had no knowledge of his style and wrestling. So the ending result was a guillotine choke.
Did you compete in any other sport(s) at college or professional level (what sport, where, how long)? I was into dancing when I was in high school. After High School is when I got into fighting. The dance school I was at had a kickboxing class. I didn't want to take it at first because it was American style kickboxing, but when my Muay Thai teacher Saekson Janjira moved from California to Dallas is when I made that transition to fighting, but I still danced on the side.
Who were your training partners for this fight? I worked with a lot of good black belts/MMA fighters at Sergio Penha BJJ. Eduardo Guedes, Jason Santos, Fabricio Moreria and Radrigo . My sparring partner was Chaz Mulkey. If you want to be the best you have to work with the best.
Did you put more emphasis towards a fighting style or adjust your training to prepare for your opponent (what did you do differently/why)? I didn't make any changes, just worked more on my strength, conditioning, and Jiu Jitsu.
What, other than WINNING, are you using for motivation for the fight? Getting back on top is what motivates me.
What is your favorite thing about this sport? My favorite thing would be the adrenalin rush when you’re walking out, feeling the crowd and then getting in that cage and doing what you love.
How long do you see yourself staying in this sport? I see myself doing this until God tells me I can't do it anymore. This is what I love and only he or my mom will be the one to determine when I stop.
